Everglades Tour from Miami

Booking the Everglades Tour

If you are walking around South Beach area you will see numerous offerings for tours of the Everglades. If you can, shop around to ensure you get a good tour and can barter down the price. A good tour will include pick up from your hotel, airboat ride and in our case village tour and alligator show. Miccosukee Indian Village

The first part of the Everglades tour is  of the Miccosukee Indian Village.  You enter through the gift shop which sells Native American and tourist style gifts.. The village is run by the Miccosukee but is all for show. The tour guides bring you around to different venders making their wares (which you can purchase) and talking about their traditions. There is also a small museum to tour as well, indoors. There is a small food stand for lunch which serves the usual tourist food and ironically, alligator. Click Here to reach their website.

 Alligator Show

Though I am always wary of animal related entertainment due to concerns regarding the animal’s welfare, the ten minute alligator show was fairly unintrusive to the animals. It involved nothing the carers wouldn’t need to do in regular caring for the animals albeit with more personal risk to themselves in this case, for entertainment value. I was impressed; I certainly wouldn’t be risking my fingers to pull off those tricks. At the end of the show you have the opportunity to hold a baby alligator which was exciting. The grounds themselves also have numerous alligators and turtles that you can check out.

Air-Boat Ride

Is it just me or does every crime show have an episode involving the everglades where some person on an airboat finds the body? Don’t worry there were none found on our tour but we did get to cruise around on the iconic boats. I had always wanted to ride one and was not disappointed. It was a fun and relaxing ride that gave you some great views of the glades. They take you out to a boardwalk and observation area for additional viewing. This gave us the opportunity to see wild alligators off the side, but you have to search closely to find one. They are good at blending in. The guide spotted and pointed them out to us.
