Wisconsin Activities to ride out the Winter
Midwestern Winters, though often beautiful and snowy, can seem to drag on forever. At some point everyone tires of the cold and dreams of spring and summer. To get us all through, we have compiled our list of certified Winter Activities to ride out the winter and have fun too.
The House on the Rock
There was always something dark and mysterious about visiting the House on the Rock as a kid. Something about all the dark spaces, old mechanical artifacts and dolls just give you that feeling. A strange contrast to walking back out into a bright sunny summer day. That’s why a winter visit is perfect. Imagine looking out on the edge of the infinity room into the snow dusted tree line; a beautiful wintry landscape. You can plan your visit through their website here.
Lake Geneva Ice Castles
Explore some breathtaking ice sculptures on the shores of Geneva Lake in Lake Geneva. Completely made of ice and backlit with LED they are sure to create a magical atmosphere. Dates are weather dependent and can be found on the website. We also have a post with some fantastic photos from our visit.
Milwaukee Brewery Tours
There are more than ten brewery tours available in Milwaukee alone. The most popular being Miller, Lakefront and Milwaukee Brewing Company. Some tours are free and all include of course a tasting at the end. And what better way to stave off the Winter cold than having a few brews?
Madison State Capitol Tour
Miss the freezing outdoor temperatures by heading indoors to tour Wisconsin’s State Capitol. The tours are free and offered daily. Afterwards check out of the numerous restaurants in the area catering to the local college students. Find tour information here.
Wisconsin Dells Indoor Waterpark
Beat the winter chill by pretending your are in a tropical oasis at one of the numerous indoor waterparks in Wisconsin Dells, the watermark capitol of the world. Purchase a day pass or book in for a weekend stay to really stave off the winter blues. Our favorites are the Kalahari and Great Wolf Lodge.
Door County Peninsula
In the Winter Door County’s fair weather hiking and biking trails give way to snowmobile and ski trails. Additionally, many of it’s shops, wineries, restaurants and lodgings for which it is known remain open for when you come off the trails. For a full list of Door County activities click here.
Skiing in Southern Wisconsin
Located in very close proximity are two popular Ski resorts Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva and Alpine Valley in Elkhorn, WI. Both excellent locations for trying out or continuing your love for this popular winter sport. Don’t forget to finish it off with some hot chocolate back in the lodge.
Northern Wisconsin Cabin Rental
Is there really anything cozier in Winter then snuggling up in a log cabin? With the introduction of rental apps and websites renting a cozy cabin for weekend away has gotten easier than ever. And a Northern Wisconsin rental will surely have the snow and rural beauty you are looking for.
