Wisconsin Ice Castles Winter Wonderland
Ice Castles are a unique frozen winter attraction built entirely of icicles and LED lights. We received media passes that allowed free entry to this attraction which we were very excited about as it was our first time getting this kind of access. You can visit in the day or the night for two unique viewing experiences. We visited their Lake Geneva location but they have six locations throughout North America so if your not local there may be one by you too. As we tend to want to hibernate until Spring it was refreshing to find something worth braving the cold for this winter.
Family Fun
Ice Castles is the perfect day out with kids. It puts my childhood igloos to shame. The kids there were having a blast crawling through the tunnels, hiding in the caves and sliding down the slides. Elsa and Anna were also there for a visit when we went but check ahead as they are not there 100% of the time. One family with very small children was pulling their kids around in sleds which was genius as the snow packed floors could be a bit challenging for the littlest of legs to trek through.
Fabulous Photos
We had a great time finding all the photo opportunities throughout the castles. All the lovely icicles and caverns are the perfect backdrop for a multitude of selfies and the staff are happy to assist with taking any group shots your hear desires. They advertise specifically their ice chairs for photos and guests joined a short line and took turns taking each other’s photos in the fur lined ice thrones. These are just a sprinkling of the numerous shots we got on our visit.
Visit Preparation
Booking you tickets ahead is an absolute must. If you wait until the day of they have been sold out. You can easily book tickets online on their website here. Their opening can be affected by the weather so check ahead. If they are unable to open due to inclement weather your tickets are refunded. Make sure you dress for warmth and snow exploration. I suggest dressing as you would to go sledding or skiing, especially for the kids who will surely be sitting and slicing in the snow and ice itself. either way you want to be able to stay warm so you do not have to cut short your visit.
We had a wonderful time exploring the Ice Castles. It is truly a winter wonderland. I are up in the area and also suggest that you don’t forget that Lake Geneva is a tourist location in it’s own right and offers some fun shops and unique restaurants to visit while you are in town.

Oh my goodness it looks so cold yet so amazing! It’s like Elsa’s castle. I am not a big winter fan but I totally want to see this. 🙂

I don’t’ know how you got so many good pics without people, the Co one is basically a single file line of tourists 🙁

Wow yeah I think they limit the amount of people that can go in at one time. Did use some editing as well to crop people out etc.

You should, but you will have to get there fast before it melts away 🙂

This looks like so much fun! I’ve been to Lake Geneva in the summer, but this makes me think I’ll have to return sometime in the winter. Alternatively, your post has encouraged me to check out the ice castles in New Hampshire this winter, a bit closer to home. Thanks for sharing!
