Authentic 1800’s Shawnee National Forest Cabin Rentals
I had left it a little last minute to plan our long weekend to Shawnee National Forest and was having a hard time finding a dog friendly cabin rental in the area. I had exhausted the usual rental sites and done a straight google search when I finally found the Olde Squat Inn. I am so glad now to have had the initial trouble that I did because if not I might never had found these authentic 1800’s cabins so close to Shawnee National Forest. Illinois Beach State Park and Campground
We recently visited Illinois Beach State Park and Campground in Zion, IL for a summer camping weekend. We really enjoyed the beach and opportunities for fishing and as always appreciated being able to bring our dog along. At just an hour north of Chicago just south of the Wisconsin border you can’t beat the convenience of that location. We will share our experiences here of this well loved State Park. Campground We booked two nights for tent camping in the campgrounds. We had a lovely site, right up against some woods and it was a large space. This is a pretty popular campground, full of lots of families. Somewhat because…

Camping on the Mississippi River

Every night a gorgeous sunset, with drastically different colors than the night before. The perfect spot for an evening of fishing or a romantic sit to watch it go down. We had a lovely adventure camping on the river. Thomson Causeway Recreation Area We stayed at the Thomson Causeway Recreation Area in Thomson, IL. It is one of many camping areas on the Mississippi river that you can choose from. The site is run by the US Army Corps who keep it well taken care of and of course…

Five Activities Near Grayling, MI
Grayling, Michigan ia an absolutely beautiful area to visit for a relaxing, get away from it all, vacation. We took a truly memorable friends trip there over the summer. Given that it is fairly remote it can be difficult to locate activities to do locally. Especially if like us, your cabin does not have wifi or ability to pick up internet service from our phones. I have collected a few of the activities that we enjoyed so that they are all in one place. I hope that it will save you the hassle of having to try and search for them yourself. Tubing the Ausable River The Ausable river runs…

How to Vacation Every Weekend
Sounds amazing right? Too good to be true. But you can really make it happen. Weather permitting, you can vacation every weekend. What I am talking about is going camping. I know, I know but don’t write it off just yet. I know what some of you may be thinking, camping, bugs, sleeping outside… no thanks. But I promise you, if you prep with the right supplies it is not a hardship. And the more times we went the easier and more enjoyable it got. We discovered last summer that what had previously been a very occasional , big hassle kind of activity could be our way to have a…
