Chicago

O’hare airport

Whether you are coming into town or just passing through you can check out the location where the  McCallister family made their frantic runs through the airport. If you are looking for true realism you can be like Lindsey’s family that time when her parents thought they had booked the flight out of Milwaukee airport and suddenly realized they were actually flying out of Chicago and have to turn around. That way you can literally be late and run through the airport but we don’t recommend it. Lets just say it’s only funny after the fact.

Home Alone House

To see the original Home Alone House you can drive a thirty to forty minute drive from downtown Chicago to 671 Lincoln Ave, Winnetka, IL.  You cannot tour it as it is privately owned but you can go look outside. Out of respect for the family and the neighbors though I would keep the visit brief. We were in absolute hysterics on our visit. Ryan puts on the soundtrack as we come into the neighborhood and we pull up outside. Then suddenly, what I swear looked like a blonde haired little boy in a red sweater going up the stairs. We totally lost it then. Maybe it was a person of another age or gender going up those stairs and it certainly wasn’t Macaulay Culkin, but we know what we saw and it totally made the night.

New York

LaGuardia Airport

New York’s airport is also featured in the second Home Alone film. So if you are passing through check out the view, it’s the one that Kevin sees when he realizes he is in fact in New York and not Miami.

Plaza Hotel

As you may remember from Home Alone Two, Kevin uses his father’s credit card to stay at the Plaza Hotel. At a price of almost $500 a night I don’t know that we would reccomend a stay, nor have we because well, we are regular people. What could do is just go check out the lobby, which is where most of the action in the film takes place anyway. You never know, maybe you will run into now President Trump where he did his Home Alone movie cameo.

Central Park

The iconic Central Park is a must see spot for any visitor to New York City. We recommend the horse driven carriage rides you try for a fun way to see the park. It also is the location of numerous scenes in Home Alone Two including the majority of the scenes with the pigeon lady, Kevin running from the sticky bandits and the ice skating rink scene.

Carnegie Hall

The orchestra scene where Kevin and the Pigeon Lady (they never give her a name ok) watch from above takes place in Carnegie Hall. Carnegie Hall is a prestigious music Venue in New York. You can decide to take a guided tour of the beautiful building or even attend one of their various performances.

Rockefeller Center

That beautiful scene near the end of Home Alone Two where Kevin and his mother find each other at the big tree is located at Rockefeller Center. You will only be able to see the tree from the end of November to New Years Eve.  There is a well known ice rink  there as well which is also only available for a limited time for obvious reasons. The rest of the year you can tour the Rockefeller building and go up on the observation deck or check out some shops and eateries.
