Points of Interest in Segovia
Segovia is located the central part of Spain. It is one of many beautiful cities in Spain and has seriously ancient roots. This history has left behind numerous points of interest to enjoy that have remained after all these years. I visited the city in early January when I personally enjoyed the milder weather compared to my usual Midwestern American winter. Unfortunately, traveling during this time also meant it was somewhat gloomy and rainy during my time there. A bonus of traveling there during this time is that they still had up many beautiful Christmas lights which was a real treat. Whichever time you choose to go, you will be glad you came.
Roman Aqueducts
The Aqueducts in Segovia are remnants of the cities time conquered by the ancient Roman Empire. Experts have suggested that they completed building these around 98 or 112 AD. During their use, they transported Water from the Rio Frio (Cold River) down for use in the city. I am in awe of their use of advanced technology of such quality that it still stands today as an iconic symbol for the city.
Castle Segovia
The Castle Fortress of Segovia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and dates back to at least the 12th century when it was first referenced. It is additionally alleged to be one of the inspiration’s for Disney’s Cinderella Castle. The castle is considered particularly iconic due to it’s location up on the rocks and it’s shape that seems to mimic the bow of a ship from one side. It’s tower also provides a beautiful view of the outskirts of town.
Fortress Tour
On the Tour you can go inside of the various palace rooms and view numerous medieval artifacts and decor items. As an American, who therefore does not have easy access to medieval Architecture, I was particularly tickled by the ability to step into Medieval times. The enormous tapestries and detailed stained glass windows and ceiling work harken back to what I would imagine should decorate a medieval castle. They additionally house numerous suits of armor that were also a treat for me.
Cathedral Segovia
The Cathedral is located right in the center of town in the Plaza Mayor. This makes it convenient as far as locating it and having other points of interest nearby to explore. It has a beautiful and Unique exterior architecturally which stems from it’s gothic style. The gothic style continues on the interior and can be viewed by visitors. The tower is also accessible if you are able to walk up the stairs to the top. It provides a lovely view of the city from this vantage point.
Segovia, the city at the feet of the aqueducts is an unquestionably beautiful city. It’s passport into ancient history, both romantic and fascinating, make it a valuable place to visit. I am so grateful that my trip leader selected this city for us and am excited to be able to now share it with others.

It’s always nice to see a unique part of a popular country like Spain. I could spend days just wandering around and admiring the ancient structures and history of a place like that. Beautiful!

Love seeing a different side of Spain! I love exploring lesser-known towns. I heard many things about Segovia (I used to work at a Spanish company) and would love to visit it one day. I hope to see Salamanca too!

You should! Both places are totally undervalued as far as tourism goes.
